rev.2005.03.17 - download the latest version of this guide at www.iraq-sat.net

The following guide sets up your Cisco ATA 186 for IraqSat VOIP service. The following instructions require the file ata_03_01_00_sip_040211_1.zip, which can be downloaded from http://www.iraq-sat.net/software.html.

Step 1: Configure ATA IP address

If the ATA is already configured on an IP address, skip this step.

  1. Connect ATA and a phone to handset.
  2. Pick up handset, and press the button on the ATA, then enter the following commands on the telephone keyset. After each command it will confirm the value then you have to press 3 to save.
    1. 20#0#
    2. 1#1*2*3*4# (replace 1*2*3*4 with the correct IP for the ATA)
    3. 2#1*2*3*5# (replace 1*2*3*5 with correct gateway IP)
    4. 10#255*255*255*224# (replace 224 with last section of subnet as applicable)
  3. Put down handset.
  4. Reboot the ATA by cycling power.

You must perform each of the above steps, every time, in order, for this to work. If the process fails, start over from step 2 and try again.

Step 2: Upgrade ATA firmware to 3.01 (SIP)

Open the ATA web page at http://0.0.0.0/dev, where 0.0.0.0 is the IP address of the ATA. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check to see the firmware version of the ATA. If it is already version 3.01 or later, skip this step.

  1. Unzip the file ata_03_01_00_sip_040211_1.zip into a directory such as c:\ata186.
  2. Open a command prompt.
  3. Type "cd c:\ata186", or the name of the directory you unzipped to, and hit Enter.
  4. Type "ata186us ATA030100SIP040211A.zup -d1 -any2" and hit Enter.
  5. Follow onscreen instructions.
  6. ATA will announce "upgrade successful" when the upgrade is completed.
  7. Close the command prompt.

Step 3: Configure for IraqSat VOIP service

This step requires the following IraqSat VOIP account information:

IraqSat VOIP NameATA Data FieldExample
UsernameLoginID0ssi_company_name
PasswordPWD0a9fgWQ4j
PINDialPlan123456789#
Caller IDUID0442071080000

Caller ID is the phone number used for dialing in. For example, "442071080000" is +44 207 108 0000.

Access the ATA webpage at http://0.0.0.0/dev, where 0.0.0.0 is the IP address of the ATA.

Configure the following ATA settings to match this example. Example data is below.

Make sure the following values have been set correctly:

ATA Data FieldData to Enter
UseTftp0
Dhcp0
StaticIPIP Address of ATA (this a public IP for Tachyon, private for DW1000 and other NAT systems)
StaticRouteDefault Gateway
StaticNetMaskSubnet Mask
LoginID0Username, such as "ssi_company_name"
PWD0Password, such as "a9fgWQ4j"
GkOrProxyvoip.iraq-sat.net
UID0Caller ID / Phone Number, such as "442071080000"

NatServer0.0.0.0 if the ATA is on a public IP, or the default gateway for DW1000 and other NAT systems.
DNS1IPIP of First DNS Server
DNS2IPIP of Second DNS Server
NPrintfIP address where debug prserv output goes, plus ".9001". Example: if your PC is 10.29.1.10, put "10.29.1.10.9001" here.
DialPlan"PN" plus the PIN, such as "PN123456789#". Do not forget the characters "PN" first!

Then check that the rest of the settings match the image above.

When finished, hit "Apply" and the ATA will reboot. Reload the page and verify again that the settings are correct.

Step 4: Watch the SIP login with prserv

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type "cd c:\ata186", or the name of the directory you unzipped to, and hit Enter.
  3. Type "prserv" and hit Enter.
  4. Reboot the ATA by cycling power. The ATA only sends prserv output when a PC is on the NPrintf IP address when it boots up.
  5. ATA will output debug data. This will appear on the prserv screen.
  6. Look for "Response = 200", meaning that the ATA has successfully logged in to the SIP proxy. If not, note the response code or error message displayed.
  7. Dial any number with the ATA. Watch prserv and verify that the ATA is working. If not, note the response code or error message displayed after dialing.
  8. Close the command prompt.
